Women's Ice Hockey Holds Off Nichols

CANTON, Mass. - The Curry College women's ice hockey team downed Nichols College 3-2 on Friday evening in Commonwealth Coast Conference action at the Canton Ice House.

With the win, Curry improves to 5-6-2 overall on the season and 3-3-2 in the CCC. The win also sets a new program record for the Colonel women's ice hockey program for single season victories.

Curry freshman Seneca Urban (Superior, Colo.) opened the scoring 12:45 into the contest when she netted her second goal of the season. As her linemates went off on a change, Urban skated down the right wing on a solo rush and beat the Bison netminder low to the glove side to put Curry ahead. Picking up helpers on the play were sophomore Paige Bourgoin (Wales, Maine) and freshman Ava Doyle (Lynnfield, Mass.).

Early in the second, Curry extended the lead to two on the fourth goal of the season from sophomore Grayson Goolgasian (Johnston, R.I.). Goolgasian won a board battle behind the net, walked to the front, and deposited a backhander to stretch Curry's lead to 2-0. Hannah Berkowitz (Mattawan, Mich.) notched an assist on the play.

Berkowitz tallied her first goal of the season just over four and a half minutes later, a goal that would hold up as the game-winner. Bourgoin tallied her second assist of the evening on the goal.

Nichols scored twice in the waning minutes of the third to make things interesting, but Curry senior netminder Soleil Archambeault (London, Ontario) held tough and prevented the equalizer.

Archambeault finished the evening with 25 saves on 27 shots faced. The victory was her fourth of the season.

Next up for Curry, they will return to action against the Bison on Saturday afternoon for a 4:40 puck drop from Levy Rink in Harrisville, R.I.
