Women's Ice Hockey Storms Past Nor'easters

CANTON, Mass. - The Curry College women's ice hockey team defeated the University of New England 2-1 Saturday afternoon in a Commonwealth Coast Conference thriller at the Canton Ice House.

With the victory, Curry earns its first CCC victory of the season, improving to 3-2-0 overall and 1-1-0 in the CCC.

Curry opened the scoring late in the first period on a power play goal from sophomore Grayson Goolgasian (Johnston, R.I.). After a point shot from freshman Ava Doyle (Lynnfield, Mass.) was knocked down, Goolgasian hopped on the loose puck and buried it for her second goal of the season. Freshman Katie Courteau (Warroad, Minn.) earned a secondary assist on the tally.

The score remained 1-0 until midway through the third period, when the Colonels netted their second power play goal of the afternoon. After receiving a pass off the half boards from sophomore Emily Bisbee (Weymouth, Mass.), Danielle Stein (Plainview, N.Y.) fired the puck off the right post, but the rebound bounced right to freshman Seneca Urban (Superior, Colo.), who deposited the puck into the vacated cage for her first collegiate goal.

The Nor'easters made things interesting down the stretch, scoring with their goalie out to cut it to 2-1 with 50.2 seconds remaining. Sophomore netminder Anna Langton (Zimmerman, Minn.) held tough despite a final minute flurry, securing a win in her season debut. She finished the evening with 42 saves on 43 shots faced.

Next up for the Colonels, they will host Western New England University on Friday night at the Canton Ice House. Puck drop between the Colonels and Golden Bears is slated for 7 p.m.
