Women's Ice Hockey Blanked by Salve Regina

CANTON, Mass. - The Curry College women's ice hockey team dropped a 4-0 decision to Salve Regina University Monday evening in Commonwealth Coast Conference action at the Canton Ice House.

With the loss, Curry drops to 3-19-1 overall on the season and 1-14-1 in the CCC.

Brynn Mendes opened the scoring for the visitors just 1:15 in the contest. After stealing the puck off a Curry stick, Mendes went end to end before chipping the puck past Anna Langton (Zimmerman, Minn.) for the evening's first goal.

The 1-0 score remained held for nearly half the game before Emma Pereira extended the lead to 2-0 9:55 into the second. Pereira's point shot got through a sea of defenders before finding the back of the net, with a helper credited to Grace Schwartz. Just under four minutes later, Salve Regina pushed the lead to three when Nicole Schneiders put home a rebound to make it 3-0.

Senior Colby Lopez-Balboa put the finishing touches on Salve's victory midway through the third on a goal assisted by Jennifer Rickard and Caroline Cadelina.

Madison Jalbert turned aside at 20 shots she faced to earn the shutout. Langton made 33 saves in the loss.

Next up for Curry, they will face Suffolk on the road in a Thursday matinee. Puck drop is slated for 12 p.m.
