Colonels Downed by UNE

BIDDEFORD, Maine - The Curry College Women's Ice Hockey Team fell to conference opponent University of New England Saturday evening by a final score of 3-1. 

With the loss on the road, Curry drops to 3-18-1 overall this season and 1-13-1 in the Commonwealth Coast Conference. With the win, UNE improves to 8-10-2 on their season and 8-6-2 in the conference.

Curry opened the scoring in the Saturday evening matchup as Ainsley Wescott (Saco, Maine) found the back of the net with just 11 seconds remaining in the first period of play, granting the Colonels a one-point lead heading into the first intermission. Danielle Stein (Plainview, N.Y.) and Rowan Nasty (Louisville, Colo.) were credited with the assists on the opening goal.

The hosting Nor'Easters tied up the game quickly in the second period on a power-play opportunity carrying over from the first period. UNE's Meghan Hamilton assisted by Avery Lutrzykowski squared up the contest 1-1. Just five minutes later, Hamilton manages to net another shot past Curry's Anna Langton (Zimmerman, Minn.) to give the Nor'Easters a one-goal lead. 

One more goal for UNE in the third period sealed the victory at home, Eliana Kane found a gap in the framework midway through the third. UNE would hold off any further Curry attacking efforts, Delanie Corcoran tallying 25 saves in the win at home.

Curry's Anna Langton recorded 32 saves in the conference matchup.

The Colonels get back out on the ice Monday to host Salve Regina at the Canton Ice House at 6:45 PM.
