Colonels Contained by Lancers in Non-Conference Bout

WORCESTER, Mass. - The Curry College Women's Hockey Team was defeated by non-conference opponent Worcester State University Friday afternoon by a final score of 7-2. 

The afternoon contest was scoreless at the Worcester Ice Center until Lancer's junior forward Emily Pavoni found the back of the net late in the first period. Pavoni's goal put the hosts up 1-0 heading into the first intermission. Both sides saw over 10 shots in the first period, Worcester State outshooting the Colonels 16-11.

Down 1-0, the Colonels fought for an equalizer. Midway in the second period, Curry's Danielle Stein (Plainview, N.Y.) found the back of the net to even up the contest at one apiece. Curry forward Grayson Goolgasian (Johnston, R.I.) was credited with the assist on the equalizer. Just under two minutes later, Worcester State took the lead. The goal was scored by Cassidhe Wozniak, assisted by Sydney Vautour. The Lancers cushioned their lead under 30 seconds later as Gabby Petrisin found the back of the net, assisted by Katie Puumala. Worcester State would tally two more goals through the second period. A shorthanded goal from Sydney Vautour put the hosts up 4-1 just past the midway point. Worcester's Amy MacGlashing would close out the scoring in the second, finding a shot past Curry's Anna Langton (Zimmerman, Minn.), furthering the lead to 5-1 heading into the final period of play. 

Worcester State opened the scoring in the third period on a power-play opportunity. Katie Puumala assisted by Clare Conway increased the lead to 6-1. Curry's Grayson Goolgasian found a gap in the framework midway through the final period, lessening the Lancer lead to 6-2. Worcester State snuck one more goal late in the contest, Clare Conway found the back of the net to solidify the victory over the visiting Colonels, 7-2. 

Worcester State's Amber Lee faced 32 shots, saving 30 in the afternoon matchup. 

Curry's Anna Langton faced 31 shots in the contest, saving 24.

The Colonels get back out on the ice Friday, Feb. 4, to face Suffolk on the road for more CCC action. Puck-drop is set for 6 PM.
