Colonels Taken Down by Conference Opponent UNE

BIDDEFORD, Maine - The Curry College Women's Ice Hockey team was downed by conference opponent the University of New England on the road Friday evening. The contest was decided with a final score of 4-2 in favor of the hosting Nor'Easters. 

With the loss on the road, the Colonels fall to 3-12 overall this season and 1-8 in the conference. With the win, UNE improves to 5-9-1 overall and 5-5-1 in the CCC.

The Nor'Easters grabbed an early lead, netting two goals in the first period. The first of the hosts' goals were scored by Carolyn Curley assisted by Maeve Crehan and Jenna Pych. Just two minutes after the first goal, UNE cushions their lead with a goal from Meghan Hamilton assisted by Grace Arsenault and Raquel Ade. The two teams would head into the first intermission with the hosts ahead 2-0. 

Curry managed to answer midway through the second period of play. Nine minutes into the second period, UNE forward Abbi Charvat was sent to the penalty box for tripping granting the Colonels a power-play opportunity. Just 45 seconds into the power-play, Curry forward Ali Olorenshaw (Saskatoon, Sask.) found the back of the net; credited with the assist was Hannah Berkowitz (Mattawan, Mich.) and Grayson Goolgasian (Johnston, R.I.). The Colonels netted an equalizer just over two minutes later, forward Rowan Nasty finding open space in the framework tallying another for her side.

The hosting Nor'Easters netted two more goals in the second period, regaining the two-goal margin once again. UNE's Carolyn Curley netted her second goal of the contest 14:27 into the second. Under two minutes later, Bella Crugnale recorded the final goal of the matchup, assisted by Eliana Kane and Carolyn Curley. The hosts would take the contest with the final score, 4-2.

UNE's goaltender Delanie Corcoran recorded 23 saves on 25 shots faced in the win. 

Colonel's netminder Anna Langton (Zimmerman, Minn.) saw 44 shots in the contest, saving 40.

The Colonels head back out on the ice Saturday afternoon to face the Nor'Easters on home ice for more CCC action. Puck-drop is scheduled for 3 PM at The Canton Ice House.
