Women's Ice Hockey Slipped Up by Suffolk

CANTON, Mass. - The Curry College women's ice hockey team suffered a 3-2 defeat at the hands of Suffolk University Friday evening in Commonwealth Coast Conference action at the Canton Ice House.

With the loss, Curry falls to 1-4-0 overall and 1-2-0 in the conference. Suffolk stays perfect at 5-0-0 and 1-0-0 in the league.

Curry opened the scoring with just over six minutes to play in the first period when freshman Asher Printzen (Las Vegas, Nev.) stole a Suffolk pass and ripped a laser past the glove side for an unassisted goal. The lead was short-lived however, as Suffolk's Shana Cote scored just under three and a half minutes later to even the score heading to the first intermission.

Suffolk found the back of the net twice in the middle frame to take a 3-1 lead on goals from Maddy Burton and Cassidy Gruning.

Curry made things interesting when captain Sammy Lassman (Parkland, Fla.) scored her first collegiate goal with 7:19 remaining. The rookie took a Mya Morningstar (Buffalo, Minn.) feed and wristed a shot through a screen and into the cage to cut the deficit to 3-2. The Colonels got no closer however, and Suffolk escaped with a one-goal win.

Despite the loss, Curry freshman netminder Anna Langton (Zimmerman, Minn.) shined for the hosts, turning aside 48 shots in the defeat.

The two teams will return to the ice on Saturday for a rematch at Suffolk. Puck drop is slated for 4:50 p.m.
