CANTON, Mass. - The Curry College women's ice hockey team suffered a 2-1 defeat to Western New England University on Friday evening in the Commonwealth Coast Conference opener for both teams at the Canton Ice House.

With the defeat, Curry drops to 0-3-0 overall and 0-1-0 in the CCC. Western New England improves to 3-0-0 overall and 1-0-0 in CCC.

Western New England broke the ice in the opening period, when sophomore Natalie Parker redirected home a shot from the point by Alyssa Murphy on the power play. Defenseman Brie Dube got a secondary assist on the marker.

Curry leveled the score with just over a minute to play in the first period when Ali Olorenshaw (Saskatoon, Saskatchewan) potted her first collegiate goal off an Asher Printzen (Las Vegas, Nev.) rebound to pull the Colonels even at 1-1. Freshman Paige Rodriguez (Eau Claire, Wis.) earned a secondary assist on the power play goal.

The Golden Bears netted the eventual game-winner midway through the second period when Murphy went end-to-end for an unassisted power play goal.

Sophomore Rieley Jessie-Gerelli stood on her head with 40 saves on 41 shots to earn her second win of the season. Curry's Ella Campbell (Farmington Hills, Mich.) made 20 saves in the defeat.

The teams will return to the ice for a rematch at Olympia Ice Center Saturday night at 7 p.m.
