Colonels Fall to Johnson & Wales in Season Opener

ATTLEBORO, Mass. – The Curry College women's hockey team fell to non-conference opponent Johnson & Wales Friday night in their season opener on the road.

With the loss, Curry kicks off their season 0-1. With the win, Johnson & Wales start their season 1-0.

Neither team recorded a goal in the opening period Friday evening. The scoring opened up in the second period with a converted power-play goal by Madison Matrasko of JWU, Hannah Tracy, and Hailey Wiltshire credited with the assist putting the Wildcats up 1-0.

Curry responded to the deficit within five minutes converting a power play for themselves. Goal scored by Danielle Stein (Plainview, N.Y.) assisted by Grayson Goolgasian (Johnston, R.I.) and Kalie Gruhlke (Chippewa Falls, Wis.).

The Wildcats were able to net three more in the third period to seal their victory over the Colonels in the season opener. Goals scored by Hailey Wiltshire, Koryn Russell, and Soph Hamel following Curry's equalizer finalized the contest at 4-1 in favor of Johnson & Wales.

Curry goaltender Anna Langton (Zimmerman, Minn.) recorded 33 saves on 37 shots faced Friday in the loss.

The Colonels head back out on the ice Saturday facing Johnson & Wales on home turf at the Canton Ice House. Puck drop is slated for 7 PM.
