Rider Finalizes Inaugural Women's Ice Hockey Staff

MILTON, Mass. — Curry College women's ice hockey head coach Kelly Rider has announced the hiring of the inaugural women's hockey staff. Rider, who was hired this summer to build Curry College's first NCAA Division III women's ice hockey team, has recently appointed Kaylee Harnen and Moe Bradley as assistant coaches.

Harnen graduated from Adrian College in 2016 and was a member of the inaugural ACHA Division I team. She then went on to complete her Master in Sport Leadership from Northeastern University in 2018. She joins the Colonels with Rider, having spent the last two seasons as Rider's assistant coach at Northland College. Harnen assisted Rider in recruiting a class of 17 players to Northland prior to their departure. Harnen has also been a USA Hockey Central District Evaluator and a USA Hockey Virtual Intern Coach.

Harnen spoke about joining Rider at Curry, saying, "To be part of a new program was a no brainer for me. I was thrilled when I heard about Curry adding women's hockey to their athletic offerings and to see the support, we have already received is amazing." She went on to say, "Being back in Boston to continue to work and learn with Coach Rider to build this program from the ground up is truly an honor. I can't wait for our inaugural season and all the success to come."

Rider said she is "humbled that Kaylee wanted to follow (her) to Curry." Rider emphasized that, "It has made for a seamless transition, not only because we have worked together, but also because she's built relationships with many of our recruits and their coaches already. This has been incredibly valuable as we all navigate this pandemic together."

Bradley will work primarily with the goaltenders. She began her collegiate career at the University of New Hampshire (2011-2013) and graduated from UMass Boston in 2015. She went on to receive two master's degrees. She received her Master of Science in Communication Studies from Stevenson University while serving as a Graduate Assistant and received her Master of Education from Suffolk University while serving on the inaugural women's hockey staff. Bradley also currently serves as the Goaltending Coach for Boston College, the Women's Director at Stop It Goaltending in Foxboro, and is the Female Goaltending Development Coordinator for USA Hockey's Massachusetts District.

"Moe is widely respected as a goalie coach and we couldn't be luckier to have her," said Rider. "I'm eager to learn from Moe and for our goalies to learn and grown under her guidance."

Bradley commented, "Athletic Director Vinnie Eruzione is right on track recognizing the growth of opportunity of Division III women's hockey in the Boston area. The depth and breadth of Coach Rider's experience, coupled with her competitive nature, are the making for a program built to last and succeed. I am thrilled to be part of a new era of women's college hockey in my home state and for the opportunity to work with and learn from Vinnie and Kelly."

Rider went on to say, "I'm really excited about our staff and grateful for the support of Curry College to build this staff. Kaylee and Moe both have experience being part of new programs. Their experience and passion for building a positive, winning culture really benefits our program. I couldn't have a better group of coaches to build a program with and really appreciate how much women's hockey is valued at Curry."

The Curry College women's ice hockey team begins its first season of competition in the Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) starting in the 2021-22 academic year. The team will play out of the Canton Ice House.
