Women’s Basketball Falls in Season Opener

NORTON, Mass. - Curry College opened up the 2024-25 women's basketball season with a 62-57 loss to Wheaton College Thursday night at Emerson Gymnasium.

With the loss, the Colonels fall to an overall record of 0-1 to start the year.

After falling into a 9-0 deficit to start the game, the Colonels clawed their way back into the contest with an Emerson Cherry (Sturbridge, Mass.) three-pointer cutting the Wheaton lead to 33-31 heading into halftime.

Curry continued to play hard in the second half, losing the third quarter by three points while managing to outscore Wheaton by one point in the final period. Unfortunately, the home team was able to keep the visitors at bay and hand Curry its first loss of the season.

Lauren Dunn (Hanson, Mass.) and Cherry led the Colonels with 12 points apiece, each knocking down a pair of threes. Kylie McCarthy (Beverly, Mass.) dished out a team-high seven assists while Sophie Hilbrunner (Waltham, Mass.) led the squad with six rebounds.
