Colonels Downed by Rams

MILTON, Mass. - Curry College Women's Basketball fell to Commonwealth Coast Conference opponent Suffolk University by a final score of 60-51 at home Tuesday evening. 

With the loss, the Colonels fall to 6-16 overall this season and 2-13 in the CCC.

The opening quarter of the matchup in Katz Gymnasium saw a close battle between the two conference sides, Suffolk holding a slight five-point lead at the conclusion of the first ten-minute period. Curry's Lauren Dunn (Hanson, Mass.) notched eight points on two threes and a layup in the first quarter to keep the Colonels in pace with the visiting Rams. 

Curry began scoring in the second quarter on two successful free throws from Lauren Dunn and a three-pointer from the top of the key by Kathryn Dunn (Hanson, Mass.) bringing the Colonels within four points of the visitors with 6:46 remaining in the half. Two free throws from senior guard Kaitlynn Smith (Hull, Mass.) brought Curry within three points of the Rams with just over a minute left in the half. In the final moments of the half, an Amanda DeAngelis jumper pushed the Rams' lead to five, sending the conference sides into halftime with Suffolk leading 29-24.

The visiting Rams took charge in the third quarter, notching 16 points to Curry's nine. With just one second left in the quarter, Curry's Kristyanna Remillard (Abington, Mass.) knocked down a layup to bring the Suffolk lead to 12, with the score set at 45-33.

Curry's Remillard continued scoring into the fourth quarter, notching six points along with an Ellery Campbell (Rockland, Mass.) layup to come within nine points of the visitor's lead. With 2:30 minutes left in regulation, freshman guard Lauren Dunn knocked down a corner three to come within five points of Suffolk's lead. Suffolk would hold Curry back from catching their lead, defeating the Colonels by a final score of 60-51.

The Colonels were led by Lauren Dunn (17 points, 4 rebounds, 4 assists), Kathryn Dunn (11 points, 5 rebounds), and Kristyanna Remillard (8 points).

The Colonels return to the court Saturday as they travel to face CCC opponent Endicott at 1 PM.
