Colonels Stopped Short by Bison

DUDLEY, Mass. - Curry College Women's Basketball fell to Commonwealth Coast Conference opponent Nichols College by a final score of 100-92. 

With the loss, the Colonels drop to 6-12 overall this season and 2-9 in the CCC.

The Colonels kicked off the conference matchup on a 12-4 scoring run, capped by a Kaitlynn Smith (Hull, Mass.) layup just 4:36 into the matchup. The hosting Bison brought the score to 15-15 three minutes later on a Kya Burdier layup. Curry's Lauren Dunn (Hanson, Mass.) tallied two successful free throws in the final moments of the first quarter to push the Colonels to a 20-15 heading into the second quarter.

Nichols College dominated the second quarter, outscoring the Colonels 30-16, notching 18 points off of turnovers. 

Curry regained the lead with 2:16 remaining in the third quarter, Nicole Moran (Framingham, Mass.) knocking down two free throws to take a 62-60 edge over the hosts. The two sides would exchange blows throughout the third quarter, Moran tying up the contest on two more successful free throws. Curry's 17 points from the line in the third quarter would send the matchup into the third quarter tied 70-70. 

Nichols took off to gain a nine-point lead 6:11 into the final quarter. A Lauren Dunn three brought the Colonels within four points of the hosts with 1:35 remaining; prompting head coach Joe Reedy to call a timeout in order to draw up a gameplan for the game's final moments. A Kathryn Dunn (Hanson, Mass.) layup brought the Colonels within two points of the hosts, however, eight free throws from the hosts in the final moments closed the CCC matchup in favor of Nichols College, 100-92.

The Colonels were led by Lauren Dunn (24 points, 12 rebounds, 5 assists), Kathryn Dunn (20 points, 7 rebounds), and Kristyanna Remillard (13 points, 8 rebounds).

The Colonels return to the court Saturday as they host CCC opponent Salve Regina in Katz Gymnasium at 12 PM.
