Women's Basketball Taken Down in CCC Tournament First Round

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. - The Curry College women's basketball team saw its 2021-22 season come to a close on Monday evening, falling to Western New England University 83-63 in the First Round of the Commonwealth Coast Conference Tournament at the Alumni Healthy Living Center.

With the loss, Curry finishes its season with an overall record of 4-22.

Western New England looked strong straight out of the gate, going on a 12-0 run in the first five and a half minutes of the contest to take a 16-4 lead early. By the time the horn sounded in to end the first quarter, the Golden Bears held a 26-14 lead. Curry junior Kathryn Dunn (Hanson, Mass.) led Curry with eight points in the quarter.

The Golden Bears narrowly outscored Curry 17-14 in the second quarter to take a 43-28 lead into the locker room.

Curry topped Western New England 15-14 in the third quarter, paced by six points from junior Kaitlynn Smith (Hull, Mass.), but the deficit proved to be too much to overcome. Western New England put up 26 in the fourth to punch their ticket to the CCC Quarterfinals.

The visitors had two players finish in with over 20 points, led by junior Kristyanna Remillard (Abington, Mass.) with a career-high 23 points. Dunn finished right behind her with 22 points, while Smith closed with 11.
