Colonels Downed by Nor'Easters in Conference Play

BIDDEFORD, Maine - The Curry College Women's Basketball Team was downed by Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) opponent University of New England Wednesday evening with a final score of 51-93.

With the loss on the road, the Colonels fall to 3-15 overall on the season and 0-11 in the CCC. With the win at home, UNE improves to 11-8 overall and 9-3 in the conference.

The contest began in favor of the hosting Nor'Easters. A 16-4 lead through six minutes of play gave the hosts a comfortable lead to start. Curry's Kaitlynn Smith (Hull, Mass.) knocked down two free throws to get her side back in the scoring column. A steal from Colonels forward Jacklyn MacDonald (Attleboro, Mass.) resulted in a fast-break layup from Emerson Cherry (Sturbridge, Mass.) closing the deficit to eight points. The second quarter began similarly to the opening 10 minutes. UNE surged forth, quickly tallying eight more points to their total in the opening two minutes. The Nor'Easters found much of their success down low, recording 14 points in the paint to Curry's 4 in just the second quarter. The Colonels would trail UNE 48-27 heading into the half.

The second half would see a similar outcome as the opening two quarters. Outscoring the visiting Colonels 45-24 and securing the victory. The hosts would shoot 50% (18-36) from the field while holding the Colonels to 36.4% (8-22). The final score of the conference bout would be 93-51 in favor of UNE.

The Nor'Easters were led by Jordyn Franzen (16 pts, 9 reb), Abby Cavallaro (14 pts, 5 reb), and Kaylee Bayor (13 pts, 5 reb).

The Colonels were led by freshman Emerson Cherry (15 pts, 4 reb) and Kristyanna Remillard (Abington, Mass.) (9 pts).

Curry gets back out on the court Saturday as they host Gordon College at Katz Gymnasium for more conference action. Tip-off is set for 1 PM.
