Colonels Dropped by Rams in Conference Action

MILTON, Mass - The Curry College Women's basketball team fell to conference opponent Suffolk University 80-58 Wednesday evening at Katz Gymnasium. 

With the loss, the Colonels fall to 0-7 in the CCC and 3-11 overall. With tonight's win, Suffolk improves to 3-2 in the conference and 9-3 overall.

The two sides were evenly matched through the first half. Colonel's freshman guard Emerson Cherry (​​Sturbridge, Mass.) knocked down a pair of threes and a shot from the field to lead her side with eight points within the first quarter. 

Suffolk forward Amanda DeAngelis found the net on a few occasions, occupying the paint for 16 points in the first half. A three from Curry's Jamey Satterfield (Eddington, Maine) closed out scoring for the Colonels in the first 20 minutes of play. A steal from Marrissa Gattuso and a buzzer-beater jumper propelled the Rams to an eight-point lead heading into halftime, 39-31. 

Suffolk's DeAngelis continued her dominance down low, knocking down two more layups for the Rams at the start of the half. Curry's Emerson Cherry knocked down a three as the shot clock expired, getting her side started in the second half. The Colonels added 15 points to their total through the final five minutes in the third quarter to close the Rams' lead to five as they headed into the final quarter.

The Rams extended their lead with six minutes remaining in regulation as senior forward Natalie Fraioli banked in a three, putting the visitors up 66-54. Suffolk gained momentum in the closing minutes of the night's matchup, outscoring the hosts 23-6 in the final quarter. The visiting Suffolk Rams would take the contest with a score of 80-58. 

The Rams were led by Amanda DeAngelis who marked 24 points and 10 rebounds in the win. 

The Colonels were led by freshman guard Emerson Cherry who recorded a career-high 19 points in the night's matchup. Curry guard Lily Gray tallied 12 points as freshman Jamey Satterfield marked 10 points. 

The Colonels get back out on the court Saturday as they head down the road to take on CCC opponent Wentworth. Tip-off is set for 1 PM.
