Colonels Outlast Lynx, 72-58

MILTON, Mass. - The Curry College Women's Basketball team defeated the visiting Lesley University Lynx this afternoon at Katz Gymnasium by a score of 72-58. This non-conference victory marks the Colonel's third win of the season.

With the win, the Colonels improve to 3-7 overall this season. With the loss on the road, Lesley falls to 2-9 on their season.

The first quarter of play saw the two sides evenly matched recording 15 apiece through the first ten minutes. Lesley's Alexandra Kerley scored 8 points in the opening quarter, leading her side. Curry's Jacklyn MacDonald (Attleboro, Mass.) and Kaitlynn Smith (Hull, Mass.) combined for 10 in the opening period of play, keeping the Colonels in the contest.

The Colonels found a rhythm in the second quarter. Freshman guard Jamey Satterfield (Eddington, Maine) knocked down a three to lead off scoring for the Colonels. A 16-6 scoring run from the Colonels granted a comfortable 13 point lead with just over a minute left in the half. The Curry surge of scoring was led by senior guard Lily Gray (Brooksville, Maine) who saw 11 points tally in her favor through just the second quarter. The teams would head into halftime with a score of 39-29 in favor of the hosts.

Curry College saw as much as a 20 point lead following two free throws from Kathrynn Dunn (Hanson, Mass.) late in the fourth quarter. The Lynx would climb back from the point deficit created by the Colonels slightly, but not enough to concern the hosts. The contest would end in favor of the Colonels by a score of 72-58.

The Colonels were led by senior guard Lily Gray who tallied a career-high 22 points in the win. Also assisting in the non-conference victory was Kylie McCarthy (Beverly, Mass.) who marked 12 points, 5 rebounds, and 5 steals. Both Colonels forwards Kathryn Dunn and Jacklyn MacDonald dropped 11 points, Dunn also recording 12 rebounds; MacDonald with 6. 

The Lynx were led by freshman guard Raven Premont who tallied 15 points and 10 rebounds in the loss. Both Alexandra Kerley and Kizziah Ruff dropped 12 points in the loss on the road.

The Colonels get back out on the court Tuesday, January 4th, as they host the University of New England to continue conference play this season. Tip-off is set for 5:30.
