MILTON, Mass. – The Curry College women's basketball team picked up its first win of its abbreviated 2021 season on Saturday afternoon, topping Endicott College in a 55-42 final at the Katz Gymnasium.

The Colonels (1-5 overall) used a strong first half to lead by 11 at the break and never let the margin dip below seven in the second half. Sophomore Kaitlynn Smith (Hull, Mass.) tied a career-high with 20 points to lead Curry while classmate Kathryn Dunn (Hanson, Mass.) added 10 points, seven rebounds, three assists, and two steals off the bench.

The Gulls (3-3 overall) shot just 31 percent for the game and had two student-athletes in double figures in the scoring column. Shannon Gilbert (Easton, Conn.) notched 13 points while Olivia Duncan (Essex Junction, Vt.) pitched in 10, four boards, one assist, and five steals.

The Colonels jumped out to a 5-0 advantage following a layup from freshman Mina Pabst (Middleboro, Mass.) and a triple from senior Gina Coote (Dedham, Mass.). After Endicott pulled to within one, Curry answered with an 8-0 spurt to increase the advantage to nine, 13-4. The Gulls closed the gap and got within four following a five-point mini run. The teams traded baskets to close the opening frame as the Colonels held a 15-10 lead after one.

Curry held Endicott to single digits in the second quarter to increase the margin to double figures by the break. Gilbert opened the stanza with a triple for the Gulls, but the Colonels would go on to score 13 straight to grab a 15-point lead (28-13) with 3:50 remaining in the half. Endicott went on to register the last four points to pull to within 11 at halftime, 28-17.

Curry maintained control in the second half. The squads were even in scoring in the third (13-13) and the Colonels had a slight edge in the final quarter (14-12) to capture the 13-point victory, 55-42.

Pabst finished with nine points in a starting role while Coote tallied five points and a game-high 10 caroms.

Curry will next host Nichols College on Friday, March 26 at 6:00 p.m.
