BEVERLY, Mass. - The Curry College women's basketball team dropped a 56-46 final to Endicott College on Friday evening at the MacDonald Gymnasium.

The Gulls improved to 3-2 on the season with the victory while the Colonels fall to 0-5 overall.

Emily St. Thomas (Sterling, Mass.) scored a game-high 13 points and hauled five rebounds to go along with three steals. Shannon Gilbert (Easton, Conn.) splashed a pair of treys to finish with 11 points. Olivia Duncan (Essex Junction, Vt.) notched eight points and grabbed 12 boards while Lexi Gellerman (West Hartford, Conn.) and Mariah Chamberlain (Jaffrey, N.H.) registered seven and six points, respectively.

Sophomore Kaitlynn Smith (Hull, Mass.) paced Curry with 10 points while senior captain Gina Coote (Dedham, Mass.) chipped in eight points and a game-high 15 boards.

Endicott clung to a 14-13 advantage through one quarter of play.

The Colonels scored the first five points of the second, coming by way of a layup from freshman Jacklyn MacDonald (Attleboro, Mass.) and a triple by Kai. Smith to gain an 18-14 edge. A quick 8-0 run gave the Gulls a four-point lead, but Curry would hang around. Endicott held the Colonels scoreless for the final 5:10 of the quarter and went into the half with a 28-20 lead.

Curry hung around in the third quarter as the teams were even in scoring at 10 apiece. The Gulls went up by as many as 12 in the frame, but Curry closed the gap down to as few as five (35-30). The final basket of the quarter was a triple from Gilbert to give Endicott an eight-point edge, 38-30, at the end of three.

The Colonels got on the board first in the final frame and trimmed the deficit to five following a three by MacDonald. Curry got it down to five once again after two free throws from sophomore Katie Smith (East Bridgewater, Mass.). Following a free throw by Olivia Valente (Saugus, Mass.), Kai. Smith knocked down another three to pull within three, 43-40.

The home squad increased its margin to seven in the final 3:25 after a jumper by Duncan. The Colonels would not go away, only trailing by five (51-46), with 2:58 left after a layup by Coote.

That would be the final bucket for Curry as Endicott scored the final five points for the 10-point victory, 56-46.

Curry will wrap up its home-and-home series with Endicott on Saturday, March 20 at the Katz Gymnasium. Tip-off is set for 1:00 p.m.
