MILTON, Mass. – The Curry College women's basketball team picked up a 59-50 victory on Saturday evening over MCLA in non-conference action at the Katz Gymnasium. The win moves the Colonels to 3-2 while the Trailblazers fall 1-3.

A total of eight players found their way into the scoring column as Curry shot 37 percent in the contest. Molly Plunkett (Quincy, Mass.) and Nicole Rice (Woburn, Mass.) led the way with 16 points apiece off the bench. Emily Irwin (Billerica, Mass.) pitched in with a double-double of 10 points, 12 rebounds, seven assists and seven steals. Five other Colonels found the scoring column, led by Sam Bamford's (North Easton, Mass.) five points off the bench.

Mckenzie Robinson (Adams, Mass.) posted a team-high 15 points that included a 6-for-12 effort from the field to pace the Trailblazers. Karina Mattera (Johnston, R.I.) added 15 points and four rebounds off the bench while L'Rae Brundige (Valley Falls, N.Y.) chipped in with 10 points and three rebounds.

MCLA led by five in the early going, grabbing a 9-4 lead after Samantha Gawron ISouth Hadley, Mass.) knocked down a three with 5:41 remaining in the stanza. Curry responded with a 8-0 run on three straight buckets by Plunkett. The lead for the Colonels would reach double digits after Bamford hit a three with 2:36 to go in the first period. Curry tallied one more basket in the first as the Colonels closed the first quarter with a 21-11 lead. MCLA began to close to the gap in the second, cutting the deficit to as few as four at 27-23 with 1:32 following a three point jumper from Mattera. Rice answered right back with a three of her own to give the Colonels a 30-23 advantage at the break.

After trailing by as many as 11 in the early moments of the third quarter, the Trailblazers inched back into the game as Brundige, Gawron, and Mattera carried the offensive load. Brundige finished with eight points in the stanza while Gawron and Mattera went a combined 3-for-4 from the line as MCLA trimmed the deficit to single digits at 45-36 at the end of three.The Trailblazers would get as close as nine before the end of the fourth as the Colonels pulled out their second home win of the season in the 59-50 final.

Curry will next play on Monday, November 27 when they host Suffolk at 5:30 p.m. MCLA will next host Utica on Wednesday at 5:30 p.m.
