Women's Basketball Tops MCLA, 67-45, in Smith College Tourney Consolation Game

NORTHAMPTON, Mass. - The Curry College Women's Basketball Team knocked off Mass. College of Liberal Arts, 67-45, in the consolation game of the Smith College Tip-Off Tournament. The Colonels improved to 1-1 on the season, while the Trailblazers are now 0-2.

MCLA got off to a slow start falling behind 22-12 after one quarter of play.  The Trailblazers played better in the second quarter, however they still trailed by 10 at halftime 37-27.

Any thoughts of a Trailblazer comeback were dashed when Curry outscored MCLA 26-15 in the third quarter to take a commanding 63-42 lead into the fourth period. MCLA never threatened again and Curry went on to the win.

Curry was led by four players in double figures including Christina Deiorio's game high 19 points. Emily Irwin ended with 13 points and Shannon Griffith had 12. The other player in double figures was Kerry White who had 11.

Kayla Hotaling scored 12 points to lead MCLA including ten in the second half.  She was the only Trailblazer in double figures as freshmen Courtney Pingelski and MacKenzie Robinson finished with 8 apiece.  The Trailblazers were hampered by shooting just 32% for the game and committed 25 turnovers.

Curry shot a solid 45% from the floor and overcame 25 turnovers to score the win.
