Women's Basketball Cruises Past Southern Vermont, 81-57, in Non-Conference Action
MILTON, Mass. – Curry College scored the first 18 points of the game then cruised to an 81-57 victory over visiting Southern Vermont in non-conference women’s basketball action Thursday night in Milton. The Colonels improved to 2-4, while the Mountaineers fell to 1-4.

Curry’s game-opening 18-0 run was highlighted by back-to-back three-pointers by sophomore Ashley Assarian (Chicopee, Mass.). Southern Vermont chipped away over the remainder of the opening frame, cutting the deficit to 12 (37-25) heading into intermission. The Colonels built their biggest lead (78-42) after freshman Christina Deiorio (Stoughton, Mass.) made a layup with 4:58 remaining in the second period.

Junior Hailey Rafferty (Worcester, Mass.) led Curry with a game-high 20 points, while grabbing seven rebounds. Assarian added 14, while freshman Kylie Beltz (Pequot Lakes, Minn.) chipped in with 10. Junior Carolyn Houston (Melrose, N.Y.) pulled down a team-high 11 boards.

The Mountaineers were led by senior Joa Claircius (Clermont, Fla.) with an 11-point, 12-rebound double-double effort. Sophomore Ashliy Veliz (Glendale, Cali.) scored a team-high 16 points, while senior Sherrita Hall (Temple Hill, Md.) contributed 11.

Curry returns to action on Saturday, hosting Gordon College in a conference matchup with a 1:00 p.m. tip-off. Southern Vermont resumes play on December 6 hosting Wheelock College at 8:00 p.m.
