Women's Basketball Tripped Up 65-59 by CCC Rival Eastern Nazarene

MILTON, Mass. – Visiting Eastern Nazarene scored 44 second-half points, en route to a 65-59 win over Curry in women’s basketball action Tuesday night in Milton. The Lions improve to 12-12 overall and 9-8 in Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) play, while the Colonels fall to 8-16 overall and 6-11 in CCC action.

Curry took its biggest lead of the game (11-5) early in the first period after freshman Kylie Beltz (Pequot Lakes, Minn.) made a layup. Eastern Nazarene took its first lead of the game (20-19) after junior Mel Green (Annapolis, Md.) made a layup, got fouled and then converted on the free throw with 4:12 remaining in the first half. The Colonels took a two-point lead (23-21) heading into the break after freshman Jeanette Fallon (Nashua, N.H.) made a layup as time expired.

The Lions opened the second half on a 12-0 run capped off by a three-pointer from freshman Kori Sorensen (Quincy, Mass.) to take their biggest lead of the game (32-23) with 15:43 on the clock. Curry cut the deficit to four (56-52) with 1:34 left in regulation after Beltz scored seven-straight points for the Colonels. But that was as close as Curry would come, as Eastern Nazarene sank 7-of-8 at the charity stripe over the final minute of regulation to secure the victory.

Junior Alexis Malloy recorded a double-double to lead the Lions with game highs in points (22) and rebounds (14), while junior Shardae Brown (Waterbury, Conn.) chipped in with 10 points.

The Colonels were led by Beltz and junior Carolyn Houston (Melrose, N.Y.) with 14 points apiece. Junior Julia Scrubb (Stowe, VT) scored 11, while freshman Jeanette Fallon (Nashua, N.H.) pulled down a team-high six boards.

Both teams return to action on Saturday at 1:00 p.m., as Curry travels to Wentworth, while the Eastern Nazarene hosts Endicott.
