Despite Solid Defensive Effort, Women's Basketball Comes Up Short, 50-47, Against Visiting Endicott
MILTON, Mass. – Curry held visiting Endicott to just 19 second-half points, but was still edged, 50-47, in women’s basketball action Saturday afternoon in Milton. The Gulls improve to 15-8 overall and 12-4 in Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) play, while the Colonels fall to 8-15 overall and 6-10 in CCC action.

Both teams struggled to find their offense throughout the contest. Curry made 8-of-28 (28.6%) field goals in the first half, while Endicott connected on only 7-of-21 (33.3%) in the second half. Overall, the Colonels shot 26.7% from the field, while the Gulls shot 38.5%.

After junior Jen McBrien (Medfield, Mass.) made a layup with 4:28 left in the second half to put Endicott up by eight (48-40), Curry responded with a 7-0 run that culminated with a split pair of free throws by sophomore Ashley Assarian (Chicopee, Mass.) to cut the deficit to one (48-47). But the Gulls would go on to score the only basket over the remainder of the game, jumper by sophomore Jennifer White (Lisbon, N.H.) at 1:15 that accounted for the 50-47 final.

White and sophomore Samantha Crough (Cohasset, Mass.) scored 10 points apiece to lead the Gulls. Crough recorded a double-double with a game-high 12 rebounds. Sophomore Jordan Ferland (Charlestown, Mass.) pulled down 10 boards.

Junior Hailey Rafferty (Worcester, Mass.) scored a team-high 11 points to go along with eight rebounds. Freshman Kylie Beltz (Pequot Lakes, Minn.) contributed eight points and grabbed a team-best 10 boards.

Both teams return to action Tuesday at home, as Endicott plays the University of New England at 6:00 p.m., while Curry entertains Eastern Nazarene with an 8:00 p.m. tip-off.
