Women's Basketball Tripped Up 48-45 at Gordon
WENHAM, Mass. — The Curry College women’s basketball team lost at Gordon College, 48-45, in a Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) game Saturday afternoon in Wenham. The Colonels fell to 7-11 overall and 5-6 in league play, while the Scots improved to 7-11 overall and 2-9 in conference action.

After Curry started out with a hot hand in the opening minutes, the Scots found themselves trailing 11-3 at the 15:39 mark. Curry continued to stretch the lead over the following five minutes, thanks in part to standout play from Ashley Assarian (So./Chicopee, Mass.), to create a 19-8 deficit for Gordon with just under 10 minutes on the clock. From there out, however, play belonged to the Scots, who held Curry to just a single bucket for the remainder of the half and netted 13 points of their own to make it a tie ballgame (21-21) at the break.

A similar story played out in the second half, with the guest Colonels taking a six-point lead with 14:24 on the board, only to have that lead closed by the Scots over the next eight minutes until a three-pointer from Aly Towle (Fr./Rochester, N.H.) gave Gordon its first lead of the game, 37-35. Four more points from Towle and a jumper from Leanna Tallamy (Fr./Wantage, N.J.) expanded Gordon's advantage to eight points with two and a half left in regulation. Though Curry would net five points in the next 30 seconds, the Scots iced the game from the stripe in the final minutes to hold on for the three-point win.

Towle led all scorers with 20 points and six rebounds, while Tallamy recorded a 16-point, 10-rebound double-double and Brooke Kratche (Fr./Chagrin Falls, Ohio) won the battle of the boards with 13 on the day. Curry's effort was paced by Assarian, who finished with 11 points, five rebounds, and three steals and Kylie Beltz (Fr./Pequot Lakes, Minn.) who contributed eight points and 11 rebounds.

The Scots take to the court once again on Tuesday, January 31 as they host Roger Williams at 6:00 p.m. Curry hosts the University of New England on the same day at 6:00 p.m. (Recap courtesy of Gordon Sports Information)
