Women's Basketball Improves to 7-0 After 70-49 Win Over Fisher

MILTON, Mass. – Five players scored in double figures as Curry College cruised past Fisher College, 70-49, in women’s basketball action Monday evening in Milton. The Colonels (7-0) maintained their perfect record on the season, while the Falcons dropped to 1-5.

Curry opened the game on a 9-2 run building a lead it would never surrender. The run began with a layup by senior forward Danyel Cousins (Brunswick, ME) and was capped off with a three-pointer by freshman Ashley Assarian (Chicopee, MA). With 4:38 remaining in the first half, Fisher trimmed the lead to one (23-22) after junior forward Leslie Wadhams (Fort Worth, TX) sunk a pair from the charity stripe. The Colonels responded by scoring 12 of the last 16 points in the period to give themselves a 35-26 edge at half.

The hosts went on a 14-0 second-half run that began with a layup by sophomore forward Julia Scrubb (Stowe, VT) with 12:06 remaining and was finished with a layup by senior forward Cortney Robinson (Brockton, MA) with 9:19 remaining. Curry took its biggest lead of the game (68-46) with 3:45 left in regulation after a pair of made free throws by Robinson.

The Colonels were led by Assarian’s game-high 17 points. Sophomore guard Carolyn Houston (Melrose, NY) added 12, sophomore forward Hailey Rafferty (Worcester, MA) and Cousins contributed 11 points apiece and Scrubb chipped in with 10. Robinson pulled down a team-high six rebounds.

Freshman guard Javana Bernard (Waterbury, CT) led the Falcons with 15 points. Wadhams contributed with 13. Junior guard Talia Hyatt (Dorchester, MA) had a game-high 10 rebounds.

Curry takes on Framingham State at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday in Milton. Fisher resumes play on December 11 with an 11:00 a.m. home contest against Johnson and Wales University (FL).
