Softball Splits Doubleheader With Bridgewater

MILTON, Mass. - Curry College split a doubleheader against Bridgewater State in a collegiate non-conference softball series Tuesday afternoon at D. Forbes Will Field

With today's games, the Colonels' overall record slides to 14-16, while remaining 6-8 in conference play.

GAME ONE: BSU 5, Curry 0

Mary Rodrigues, Jenelle Muñoz, and Jillian Rogers each hit singles, accounting for all three of the Colonels' hits throughout the day's first game.

Muñoz and Morgan Barmash split time on the mound, combining for five strikeouts throughout the contest.

GAME TWO: Curry 5, BSU 2

The Colonels' offense got off to a much better start in game two with a four-run first inning that put the home team ahead for good. Barmash started the scoring run with an RBI single to right-center field to score a runner from third. Rogers hit another RBI single to the same spot two batters later, while Cailene Dupras slapped a single to right field to drive in two more, giving Curry the early 4-0 advantage.

After the Bears cut the deficit to two runs, Dupras added an insurance run in the top of the sixth, laying down a perfect bunt to allow Mary Rodrigues to score from third on the suicide squeeze, giving the game its final score of 5-2.

Rogers pitched all seven innings for the Colonels, allowing just three hits and zero earned runs, while striking out five batters.

Curry College returns to action on Wednesday, April 23rd, with a road doubleheader against Wellesley beginning at 3 p.m.
