Babson Park, MA - The Curry Softball team split their CNE doubleheader against Suffolk on Wednesday, winning game one 2-1, and falling in game two 9-6. The Colonels are now 12-14 on the season, and 5-7 in CNE play. The Rams are now 11-12 and 5-2. Their five conference wins are already tied for their most conference wins for the Colonels since 2018
Game One
In a game that became a pitching duel, the difference came in the first inning. After Renee Gonneville doubled, Natalia O'Kleasky hit the first home run of the season for Curry, a two run bomb to put the Colonels up 2-0. With ace Jillian Rogers pitching, it was all the Colonels needed. The Rams would push a run across in the third, but no more after that.
Rogers pitched all seven innings, picking up her eighth win of the season. She struck out four batters, pushing her over the 100 mark for the third straight season.
Game Two
While game one was about the pitching, game two was about the offense. The Colonels would score a run in the third on an O'Kleasky single, but Suffolk would score two in the bottom half of the inning. After the Colonels tied things up in the fourth on an error, the Rams scored a run of their own immediately. The Colonels would grab a lead in the fifth, scoring three runs, highlighted by a pair of RBI singles from Morgan Barmash and Skylar Colburn. But the Rams would score six in response, and while the Colonels would get the tying run up on base in the sixth, they were unable to capitalize.
Jennelle Munoz was handed the loss in relief, pitching three innings, giving up six runs, but only three of them earned. O'Kleasky, Rogers, and Kailey Collins-Fiore each had two hits. One of Rogers' hits was a double, the 32nd of her career. It puts her in a tie for the third most in program history with four other players. The program record is 37.
Up next - The Colonels will continue conference play on Saturday when they travel to Hartford.
