Springfield, MA - The Curry Softball team split their doubleheader with Western New England on Sunday, winning game one 5-4, and falling in game two 5-1. The Colonels are now 8-6 on the season, and 1-1 in CNE play, while the Golden Bears are 7-7 and 1-1. The win in game one snapped a 10 game losing streak to WNE, with the Colonels last beating them in 2019.

Game One

Neither team would score until the fourth inning, when WNE scored a run on a double, their first hit of the game. The Colonels would score twice in the fifth with the help of a pair of errors, but the Golden Bears tied it back up in the bottom half of the inning on another double. They would then go up 4-2 in the sixth. Down to their last at bats, the Colonels fought back and scored three runs in the seventh. The first came on a Morgan Barmash double, and then Abby Greene brought home two with a single. The Golden Bears would get the tying run on base in the bottom of the inning, but were unable to bring her in.

Jillian Rogers started in the circle for the Colonels, going 5.2 innings, and striking out nine. Caitlyn Wood would pick up the win by pitching the final 1.1 innings.

Game Two

The Golden Bears went ahead early in this one, scoring two runs in each of the first two innings. They would add a fifth in the fourth inning. The Colonels would get one back in the sixth on Natalia O'Kleasky's third single of the game, but that would be all. Morgan Barmash was handed the loss, allowing four runs in two innings. Jennelle Munoz was strong in relief, striking out three in four innings.

Up Next - The Colonels will host Wentworth on Tuesday at 3pm.
