
Winter Haven, FL - The Curry Softball team went 1-1 on Thursday, beating Hood 10-1, and narrowly falling to Ohio Wesleyan 4-3. The Colonels are now 3-5 on the season.
Game One vs Hood
The Colonels got after it quickly, scoring four runs in the first inning. Natalia O'Kleasky and Ana Tsonis each had RBI singles, with Tsonis knocking in two. The fourth run came in on a fielder's choice. The Blazers would get one run back in the third, but the Colonels were quick to answer, as Gracie Keyes had an RBI single in the bottom half of the inning. The Curry lead grew in the fourth, as Tsonis had another RBI single. The Colonels would score again in the fifth, this time on an O'Kleasky two RBI double, which, brought the mercy rule into play, and ended the game.
Jillian Rogers was her usual self on the mound, striking out eight hitters, while allowing just one run and two walks. Four different players had multiple hits, as Renee Gonneville, Tsonis, and Keyes each had two, while O'Kleasky had three.
Game Two vs Ohio Wesleyan
Game two saw the Battling Bishops get out to a 2-0 lead in the first. The Colonels would get one back in the second on an error, but OWU would get one in the bottom of the inning too. They then made it 4-1 in the fourth. Things got interesting in the seventh though. Lindsay DesRoberts saw 10+ pitches in her at bat before hitting a single, her first career hit. Jennelle Munoz then hit an RBI double to make it 4-2. That was followed by an RBI single from Skylar Colburn to make it 4-3. The tying run was at first, but the Colonels were unable to bring her home.
