
Winter Haven, FL - The Curry Softball team opened their season on Sunday with a doubleheader in Florida, defeating SUNY Poly 2-0, and falling to Penn State Brandywine 15-0.
Game One vs SUNY Poly
In a game where runs were at a premium, the scored the only two runs of the game in the second inning. After a Gracie Keyes single, the Colonels stole three bases in the inning, scoring two runs by putting pressure on the Wildcats' defense with their speed. That would be all the Colonels needed, as they got great outings from all three pitchers they used. It started with Jillian Rogers, as she struck out 11 batters over four innings. Morgan Barmash relieved her, and pitched two shutout innings. Then Caitlyn Wood pitched a perfect seventh inning for the save.
Game Two vs Penn State Brandywine
The Colonels did themselves no favors in their second game of the day, committing seven errors. The Lions made the Colonels pay, scoring two in the first, nine in the third, and four in the fifth. The Colonels used four pitchers.
