Softball Splits Doubleheader with Nichols College

MILTON, Mass - Curry College softball split a doubleheader against Nichols College in Commonwealth Coast Conference action at D. Forbes Will Field. The Colonels' overall record slides over to 11-15 and their conference record adjusts to 2-8.

GAME ONE: Curry 1, Nichols 0

Jillian Rogers (East Freetown, Mass.) pitched the full seven innings for the Colonels while striking out 12 batters to keep the Bison scoreless. Rogers had 12 total strikeouts, allowing only two hits and three walks throughout the game. With a 1-0 lead heading into the top of the seventh, Rogers finished the game strong with three straight strikeouts to put Nichols away.

After five scoreless innings, the Colonels finally broke through in the bottom of the sixth, starting with a leadoff single up the middle of the field by Jordan Ferullo (Burlington, Mass.). Ferullo advanced to second on an error by the left fielder, setting up Gracie Keyes (Portsmouth, R.I.), who singled to center field to score the game's only run and ensure victory for the Colonels.

GAME TWO: Nichols 4, Curry 2

After falling behind by four through the first two innings, Curry bounced back in the bottom of the fourth, starting with a single through the right side of the infield by Rogers. On the ensuing at-bat, Madelyn White (Franklin, Mass.) knocked a double to left field to put runners at second and third for Taylor McDermott (Durham, Conn.) who grounded the ball to second base, allowing the run to score from third.

Mary Rodrigues (Milford, Conn.) got the Curry offense going with two outs in the bottom of the sixth with a single to left-center field and advanced to second on a steal. Renee Gonneville (Saco, Maine) doubled down the left field line to cut the deficit to two runs (4-2).

After a solid two innings from Caitlyn Wood (Saugus, Mass.), Rogers returned to the mound and picked up where she left off from game one. She allowed just two hits and zero runs over the remaining five innings to keep the Colonels in the game.

The Colonels return to action with a home doubleheader against Lesley on Tuesday, April 16th, beginning at 3 p.m.
