Softball Splits Doubleheader with Leopards

Boston, MA - The Curry softball team split their doubleheader with Wentworth on Wednesday, falling in game one 4-0, and winning game two 2-1. The Colonels are now 10-12 on the season and 1-5 in CCC play, while the Leopards are 12-12 and 2-2.

Game One

The Leopards struck first in game one, tallying runs on RBI singles in both the first and second innings. They would then double their lead in the fifth with a pair of ground outs to go up 4-0. The Colonels were unable to get the offense going, and fell by that score.

The Colonels had four hits, all singles, by Mary Rodrigues, Madelyn White, Jillian Rogers, and Taylor McDermott. Rogers got settled with the loss in the circle, going six innings. She struck out nine batters.

Game Two

The Leopards loaded the bases with nobody out in the first, but the Colonels were able to limit them to just one run on a sacrifice fly. That gave the Colonels momentum, as they would quickly tie things up in the second on a Renee Gonneville RBI triple. They would then take the lead in the third on back to back doubles from Jillian Rogers and Taylor McDermott, with McDermott picking up the RBI. That would be it for the scoring in the game, as the Colonels were able to shut the Leopards down the rest of the way.

Gonneville had a huge game with three hits. In the circle, Caitlyn Wood picked up her fourth win of the season, going seven innings and allowing just the one unearned run.

Up next - The Colonels will continue conference play on Saturday when they travel to UNE for a doubleheader beginning at 12pm.
