Colonels Swept in Final Doubleheader of Spring Break Games

CLERMONT, Fla. - The Curry College Softball Team was swept in a non-conference doubleheader against Union College and Simpson College Saturday afternoon, closing out their Florida Spring Break trip games.

With the losses, Curry falls to 2-7.

Game 1 - Curry 0, Union 8

Union tallied runs on the board first in the morning matchup, Karson Saunders tallying a two-RBI triple to right field. Three more runs in the bottom of the first granted the Dutchwomen a 5 score lead heading into the second inning.

Union marked three more runs through the fifth inning while holding the Colonels to just one hit, taking the contest by a final score of 8-0 in the top of the fifth.

Colonel's third baseman Taylor McDermott (Durham, Conn.) had the only offering for the Colonels, recording a double to left field in the top of the first inning.

Game 2 - Curry 3, Simpson 8

Simpson marked the first run of the afternoon matchup. A solo shot from Karlie Hill over the wall in center put the Storm up 1-0 in the top of the third.

Curry's Emily Bussiere (Stow, Mass.) put the Colonels on the board in the bottom of the fourth, finding her way to third on errors by Storm first and third basemen. Taylor McDermott (Durham, Conn.) batted Bussiere in with a sacrifice fly to second base, tying the contest at one run apiece.

Curry took the lead on the next at-bat with a Madelyn White (Franklin, Mass.) solo home run over the head of Storm center fielder Liv Erikson.

Simpson's Megan Crocket batted in the tying run with a hit down the right-field line. The Storm then took a 4-2 lead over the Colonels with two more RBI singles in the top of the fifth inning.

The Colonels answered back with one run in the bottom of the fifth, Natalia Okleasky (Coventry, R.I.) batting in Jillian Rogers (East Freetown, Mass.) with a single down the left-field line.

Three more runs from the Simpson College Storm through the top of the seventh solidified their lead, closing out the contest at 8-3.
