BRISTOL, R.I. – Curry College split a pair of contests at Roger Williams University on Wednesday afternoon in Paolino Field.

In the opener, the Colonels doubled up the Hawks, 12-6. Roger Williams came back with a 4-2 victory in the nightcap.

Game One – Curry 12, Roger Williams 6

The Hawks put up five runs in the first inning to take the early lead. Sophomore Jessie Robicheaw (Cape Elizabeth, Maine) got things going with a one-run double and graduate student Tara Chatowsky (North Kingstown, R.I.) followed with a triple down the right field line. Senior Katrina Goria (Wyckoff, N.J.) singled to shortstop to drive in a run while sophomores Alex Burdick (Jewett City, Conn.) and Jax Beaulieu (Sandwich, Mass.) each contributed RBI singles.

Curry began to chip away at the deficit in the second. Freshman Madelyn White (Franklin, Mass.) singled to right center to plate senior Jordan Perzan (Burlington, Conn.).

In the third, junior Alexis Buckner (Foxboro, Mass.) brought home senior Jocelyn Dimond (Weare, N.H.) with a single to make the score 5-3.

The Colonels tallied six runs in the fifth to grab the lead. Sophomore Camryn Willis (Foxboro, Mass.) drove in the first run of the frame when she was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded, which scored freshman Kaylee Medas (Bridgewater, Mass.). Dimond continued the offense with a single through the right side to plate sophomore Madison Schwartz (Bridgewater, Mass.). Buckner then drew a bases loaded walk to score freshman Jordan Ferullo (Burlington, Mass.). After a pitching change, Curry plated three more. Senior Taylor Newcomb (Millville, Mass.) singled through the right side to send sophomore Emily Bussiere (Stow, Mass.) home and then senior Jordan Perzan (Burlington, Conn.) closed things out with a two-run double down the left field line to put the Colonels in front 8-5.

Roger Williams would get one of those runs back in the bottom of the fifth on an RBI single to right center from Beaulieu. The base knock plated Goria.

Curry would go on to score four more in the sixth to come away with the 12-6 victory.

Newcomb was credited with the win in the circle, tossing a complete game. She gave up six runs on 12 hits while striking out two and walking five. Junior Taylor Bigliani (Saint James, N.Y.) was tagged with the loss for the Hawks.

Game Two – Roger Williams 4, Curry 2

Curry fell behind 2-0 after two innings but fought its way back into the game thanks to a two-run seventh. Sophomore Kaylin Fehan (Plymouth, Mass.) contributed a double down the left field line while junior Lia Nocella (Tyngsboro, Mass.) singled to right field to score Fehan.

Nocella was back in the scoring column in the fourth and the sixth. She singled up the middle to plate freshman Maddie Predaris (Rye, N.H.) and then hit a sacrifice fly to right to score Burdick.

The Colonels trailed 4-0 heading into the seventh when Buckner led off with a single to center, followed by a Perzan double to right center. After Willis struck out swinging and thrown out at first, Buckner came around to score. In the very next at-bat, White doubled to center field to plate Perzan for the final run of the game.

Nocella secured the win in the circle, tossing a complete game. She surrendered two runs on five hits to go along with seven strikeouts. Willis was given the loss for Curry. She gave up three runs on seven hits.
