Senior Reflection: Molly Horn - Softball

Senior Reflection: Molly Horn - Softball

MILTON, Mass. – Following the cancellation of the spring seasons due to the COVID-19 pandemic, including Senior Days, the Curry College Athletic Department wanted to give the senior student-athletes time to reflect on their career with the Colonels.

We continue our Senior Reflection web series and today we have Molly Horn (Buzzards Bay, Mass.) from the softball program:

Major: Public Health & Wellness

Favorite Thing About Your Sport: I love everything about the game of softball, but what I love most is the bond that is created with girls who have similar goals and beliefs as you. I enjoy having such strong support as I go through the journey of reaching that goal together while challenging each other and challenging ourselves to see what we are made of. Life lessons are learned by failing and picking each other back up. You learn who your lifelong friends are going to be and that they will always be on your team.

Favorite Moment on the Field While With the Colonels: The last game of spring break this year was one of the most bittersweet experiences of my life and probably my favorite moment. Although I knew my time as a student-athlete was coming to an end, the energy of the team that day exceeded anyone's expectations. It made me proud to know that the team I was a part of could lift up one another in such hard times. Though it wasn't the Senior Day I expected, the love and support that we had received that day was unimaginable, something we are beyond grateful for. I will never forget every play and every hit made that day because my teammates made it more memorable than I would have ever imagined.

What Being a Student-Athlete Has Taught You: From writing checks and folding laundry to learning to manage time, being a student-athlete has taught me more than I knew was possible. Most importantly, it has taught me a lot about my own character. It has taught me that I am strong enough to push myself through obstacles I didn't think were possible and that I have the ability to make a difference if I just continue to be myself.

What You'll Miss Most About Your Team, Curry, and Being a Student-Athlete: What I will miss most is the everyday routine of making new memories with the people that make your day better. I will miss being crammed in our locker room trying to put on stiff socks, Easter egg hunts on the field with the entire team and family, mall walking in Miller, team breakfasts, and most of all, the opportunity that Curry gave me to better myself everyday as a student and as an athlete.

Plans Post-Graduation and How Being a Student-Athlete Has Prepared You For Your Future Career Goals: Being a student-athlete has instilled many great qualities in me that I know I can use for the rest of my life. From staying busy almost all year round in many aspects including volunteer work, lifting, weekend tournaments, spring break, games, and practices; I have gotten accustomed to always being on the go and staying busy. All of this has helped me to work on my physical and mental state, which is important because I can expect to always be busy with my lifestyle. I've learned to problem solve in tough situations fast. I've learned to work with others, as a team, and I've learned how to communicate effectively; skills that play an immense role in the health field.

What Advice You Would Give To Future Colonel Student-Athletes: My advice would be to appreciate every aspect of your experience as a student-athlete because every day, being a part of a team is not an opportunity everyone is given. It is a gift and you should know that you have earned your time on that team. Keep pushing yourself every day because you were placed there for a reason and every day is a new opportunity to accomplish something different. As coach would always say, "take a look at the people that surround you in this moment because one day you will look back and miss them," and I already do.
