Senior Reflection: Michaela Colleran - Softball

Senior Reflection: Michaela Colleran - Softball

MILTON, Mass. – Following the cancellation of the spring seasons due to the COVID-19 pandemic, including Senior Days, the Curry College Athletic Department wanted to give the senior student-athletes time to reflect on their career with the Colonels.

We continue our Senior Reflection web series and today we have Michaela Colleran (East Bridgewater, Mass.) from the softball program:

Major: Community Health and Wellness

Favorite Thing About Your Sport:  Softball has been a constant in my life for the last 16 years. It has rewarded me with the most memorable moments of my life and offered some of the hardest life lessons to learn. It has given me the privilege to meet remarkable teammates and friends that will last a lifetime. It has exposed me to coaches who believed and trusted in me to play on the field every game and helped shape my leadership skills.

Favorite Moment on the Field While With the Colonels: My favorite moment on the field was starting the first game of the season as a freshman, which continued until my last game as a senior.

What Has Being a Student-Athlete Taught You: Being a student-athlete taught me that although it was hard juggling both school and athletics, I learned that putting in a little more grit, effort, and determination resulted in excelling in the classroom as well as on the softball field. It has also provided me with transferable skills that will undoubtedly help me become successful in life.

What You'll Miss Most About Your Team, Curry, and Being a Student-Athlete: I will miss being able to go through the ritual of putting on my uniform on game day. I will miss the shenanigans that went on with my teammates and being able to compete with them on the field. I will miss the unlimited access to the bubble gum at every practice and every game. Lastly, I will miss seeing my parents sitting in the outfield during every single game supporting me.

Plans Post-Graduation and How Being a Student-Athlete Has Prepared You For Your Future Career Goals: After Curry, I plan on continuing my education in the health care field.

What Advice Would You Give to Future Colonel Student-Athletes: Advice that I would give to student-athletes is to live in the moment. Accepting the good moments is easy; it's being able to accept the bad moments and learning from them that separates the great from the good. Don't take anything for granted because, although you may not realize it now, it will be over in the blink of an eye.
