Softball Sweeps Eastern Nazarene in CCC Play

MILTON, Mass. – The Curry College Softball team took two in a doubleheader sweep of Eastern Nazarene College, 5-1 and 3-2, on Wednesday afternoon at D. Forbes Will Field in Commonwealth Coast Conference play. The two victories move the Colonels to 12-14 overall and 7-5 in the CCC. The Lions fall to 12-11 overall and 3-3 in league play.

GAME ONE

Curry got on the board first in the bottom of the third, thanks to an RBI single from Mikayla Korona (Bellingham, Mass.) to make the game 1-0. The frame continued when Michaela Colleran (East Bridgewater, Mass.) had an RBI single to right field which scored Carolyn Lynch (Ipswich, Mass.) to push the score to 2-0.

The score would remain 2-0 until the bottom of the fourth when Korona singled to center field which was deep enough to score Molly Horn (Buzzards Bay, Mass.) to send the score up to 3-0.

The Colonels continued to build its lead in the sixth after Mikayla Lambert (Blackstone, Mass.) registered a two-RBI single to left to score Korona and Lynch.

The Lions got on the scoreboard after Heidi Gomez singled to right field to tally the only Eastern Nazarene run.

Curry was led by Korona and Lambert who each had two hits in game one. Colleran and Horn were credited with the two other hits for Curry.

Lambert picked up the win in the circle, tossing six and a third innings. She gave up one run on five hits while striking out three and walking one. McKenna Barlow (Middletown, R.I.) picked up the save. Elisabeth Schaffer (Benton, Pa.) went six innings for the Lions and gave up five runs on six hits. She struck out eight and walked two in the loss.

GAME TWO

Curry opened the scoring in game two, thanks to a two run double by Rachel Byrd (Hampstead, N.H.) which helped score Korona and Lambert.

Shaffer got Eastern Nazarene on the scoreboard with a solo shot to left to chip away at the Colonels lead and trim it to 2-1.

Kori Bow (Shaftsbury, Vt.) singled to the pitcher in the sixth which helped score Viviana Coix (Warrenville, Ill.) to tie up the contest.

The Colonels would jump ahead by a run in the seventh on a walk-off single by Lambert to score Marissa Bruno (Milford, Conn.) for the game winning run.

Bruno and Korona led Curry with two hits apiece in the nightcap. Five others had hits for the Colonels. Bow paced Eastern Nazarene with two hits.

Barlow recorded the win in the circle for the Colonels. She came in relief of Rebecca Black (East Greenwich, R.I.) and tossed one and two thirds innings while only giving up one hit. Gomez was given the loss, having given up three runs on nine hits in six and a third innings.

Curry will return to action on Friday at Endicott for a doubleheader starting at 2:00 p.m. Eastern Nazarene will next play Thursday at Lasell for a double dip beginning at 3:00 p.m.
