MILTON, Mass. – The Curry College softball team split a conference doubleheader with Gordon on Monday at D. Forbes Will Field. Curry took game one, 3-0 but Gordon took the nightcap 6-4 in nine innings. The Colonels move to 7-9 overall and 4-2 in the CCC. The Fighting Scots now sit at 5-11 overall and 1-3 in league action.

GAME ONE

A three-run homer by Marissa Bruno (Milford, Conn.) in the top of the second inning proved to be the difference as Curry shut out Gordon in game one by a final of 3-0.

The Colonels out hit the Fighting Scots 6-4, led by Kevi Oatway (East Hartford, Conn.). She went a perfect 2-for-2 at the plate. Bruno, Mikayla Lambert (Blackstone, Mass.), Jess Saluti (Braintree, Mass.) and Mikayla Korona (Bellingham, Mass.) each recorded a hit for Curry. Laura Bieren (Groton, Mass.), Carleigh Petersen (North Hills, Calif.), Sarah Ryder (Telford, Pa.) and Meredith Kercher (Ipswich, Mass.) each tallied a hit to record the four hits for Gordon.

Lambert registered her fourth win in the circle, tossing a complete game shutout while allowing just four hits. She struck out three and walked two in the victory. Emily Kline (Park Ridge, N.J.) was credited with the loss, going the distance while allowing three runs on six hits. She struck out six and walked two.

GAME TWO

Oatway got the Colonels on the board first in game two in the fourth when she launched a home run to center to give Curry the early 1-0 lead.

The Colonels added to their lead in the fifth when Oatway reached on an error by the Gordon second baseman. Carolyn Lynch (Ipswich, Mass.) and Hanna Fleming (Clinton, Mass.) scored on the play to give Curry a 3-0 advantage.

That all changed with one swing of the bat from Megan Jenkerson (McDonough, Ga.). She stepped up to the plate with two on and put the ball over the fence in center to tie the game at three.

The contest headed to extras where Curry would strike first. In the top of the ninth, Lambert singled to center to drive in Bruno. The run gave the Colonels a one-run advantage, 4-3.

The Fighting Scots had a chance to tie or win the game in the bottom of the frame when Petersen stepped to the plate with two on. She took a pitch from Rebecca Black (East Greenwich, R.I.) and deposited it over the fence in center. The home run gave Gordon the 6-4 walk off victory.

Lambert paced curry with a 3-for-5 day at the plate in the nightcap while also recording one RBI. Oatway finished game two with a 2-for-5 performance at the dish with three runs batted in and a run scored. Rachel Byrd (Hampstead, N.H.) and Fleming also had two hits while Bruno, Colleran and Saluti each finished with one hit.

Jenkerson led the Fighting Scots with a 4-for-5 game at the plate with three runs batted in and two runs scored. Petersen and Ryder had two hits apiece while Rose Shannon (Ashland, Mass.) and Kercher closed out the offensive output with one each.

Caitlin Catalanotto (Kingston, N.H.) registered the win for Gordon, going the full nine innings. She gave up four runs on 12 hits. She struck out four and walked two in the victory. Black was credited the loss. She came in relief of McKenna Barlow (Middletown, R.I.) and tossed three and a third innings. The junior gave up three runs on four hits while striking out two and walking none.  

Curry will next play on Thursday when they host Newbury College in a doubleheader beginning at 3:00 p.m. Gordon will return to the diamond Wednesday at Lasell starting at 3:00 p.m.
