MILTON, Mass. – Curry College split a non-conference softball doubleheader with Suffolk University in the regular season finale for the Colonels Wednesday afternoon in Milton. Curry took the opener, 9-4, while Suffolk rebounded in the nightcap, 7-2. Curry was technically the away team, even though the games were played in Milton.

The Colonels are now 12-16 and will begin CCC Tournament play on Monday as the #4 seed. The Rams now stand at 24-10 overall.

GAME ONE

The scoring was opened in the top of the first inning when freshman Mikayla Lambert (Blackstone, Mass.) reached on an error by the third baseman. Sophomore Marissa Bruno (Milford, Conn.) followed by reaching on an error herself putting the first two runners on. Senior Ariel LaRosa (Saugus Mass.) brought everyone home with a three-run home run to center field.

The Colonels would add to their lead in the top of the second with junior Amy Nolan (Norfolk, Mass.) starting things with two outs with a single to centerfield. Lambert followed reaching on an error by the left fielder, bringing home Nolan for an unearned run. Lambert would be plated after Bruno tripled to right field, putting Curry up 5-0 after an inning and a half.

Senior Allie Carver (Marlborough, Mass.) followed with a double, advancing Byrd to third. freshman April Adams (Burlington, Mass.) cleared the bases with a double to center and was brought around by Nolan with an RBI single. Nolan would be tagged out advancing to second and thus ending the Colonels' threat.

Suffolk would get on the board themselves in the bottom of the third. Freshman Devlin Frost (Tewksbury, Mass.) singled to left starting things for the Rams. Freshman Madison Eucalitto (Old Saybrook, Conn.) doubled and advanced Frost to third. Senior Nicole Rosa (Wallingford, Conn.) followed with an RBI single to right scoring Frost. Freshman Delaney Sylvester (Worcester, Mass.) drew a walk and the bases were loaded for sophomore Lindsay Pagano (Wyckoff, N.J.) She would sacrifice flied out to right field and all runners would advance on the through as well as Eucalitto who scored on the play. Curry would end the threat but not before the Rams got two runs back making the score 8-2 after three full.

The Colonels would get one more run in the top of the fourth with LaRosa reaching on a fielder's choice to the second baseman. Sophomore Kelly Duggan (Norwood, Mass.) doubled to center field and scored LaRosa but got caught out trying to advance to third on the throw home.

Suffolk would get two more in the fifth inning with Pagano driving in sophomore Kristen Young (Windsor, Conn.) who reached on a bunt single and stole second base. Junior Meredith Ball (Nahant, Mass.) reached on an error platting Eucalitto unearned as she walked prior.

Neither team would manage to score again the rest of the game and the final score was 8-4 in favor of Curry for the first game. Senior Taylor Ahern (Salem, Mass.) would go the distance for the Colonels giving up four runs (three earned) on seven hits and three walks while striking out three. Freshman Kathleen Slavin (Rocky Hill, Conn.) started the game for the Rams going only two innings giving up three hits while striking out a pair. Senior Sarah Chasse (Salem, Mass.) took the loss in her five inning effort giving up nine runs while only four of them were earned. She also allowed twelve hits and a walk in her outing for Suffolk.

GAME TWO

The second game of the doubleheader went a little differently with Suffolk coming out on top in the end. They scored first as a part of a seven run second inning starting with Senior Ariel LaRosa (Saugus Mass.) leading off with a walk. Freshman Delaney Sylvester (Worcester, Mass.) followed with a two run homerun over the left field fence. Junior Meredith Ball (Nahant, Mass.) singled to left and freshman Elissa Mogauro responded with a hit of her own.

Freshman Morgan Parmeter drove in Mogauro with a single to right and Suffolk had runners on the corners. Parmeter stole second during Freshman Devlin Frost (Tewksbury, Mass.) at bat and Frost delivered and RBI single to center field again putting runners on the corners. Again, Frost stole second and sophomore Kristen Young (Windsor, Conn.) bunted loading the bases for freshman Madison Eucalitto (Old Saybrook, Conn.) Eucalitto delivered a single to center platting Parameter and keeping the bases loaded for senior Nicole Rosa (Wallingford, Conn.)

Rosa delivered an RBI single of her own brining in Frost. Sylvester delivered another RBI, this time sacrifice flying out to right field scoring Young. That would be all the scoring for the Rams not only for the inning but the rest of the game as well.

Curry wouldn't get on the board until the top of the fifth where freshman Carolyn Lynch (Ipswich, Mass.) reached on fielder's choice to second baseman. She advanced on classmate Alice Felzmann's (Bellingham, Mass.) walk. Sophomore Mikayla Korona (Bellingham, Mass.) got hit by a pitch loading the bases for freshman Mikayla Lambert (Blackstone, Mass.) Lambert delivered a two RBI single to center field but that was all the scoring for the rest of the game making the final score 7-2.

Freshman Ali Yamakaitis (Avenel, N.J.) went the distance for the Rams giving up the two earned runs on five hits and five walks while striking out a pair. Freshman Jordan Lizotte (Rehoboth, Mass.) started for the Colonels only going one and a third giving up all seven earned on eight hits and a walk while striking out two batters.
