Softball Season Ends With 9-1 Loss to UNE in TCCC Tournament

BEVERLY, Mass. - Senior Stephanie Podolski went 3-for-3 at the plate with three runs batted in as the fourth-seeded University of New England Nor'easters made quick work of No. 6 Curry College, defeating the Colonels, 9-1 (5 innings), in an elimination game of The Commonwealth Coast Conference (TCCC) Softball Championship contested Thursday afternoon at Endicott College. [Box Score]

Podolski cracked a two-run blast to center as part of a five-spot UNE put on the board in the third inning, then hit a solo shot to left-center as the leadoff batter in the fifth as the Nor'easters walked off with the 8-run-rule win.

Curry (22-22) plated its lone run in the top of the first on an RBI single from freshman Chelsey Munsey. UNE went in front with two out in the bottom of the second on a single from Allison Frazier, scoring sophomores Megan Gauger and Erin Grover. The Nor'easters left the bases loaded in the frame, leading 2-1.

After getting out of a based-loaded, one-out jam in the third, UNE took advantage of four Curry errors in the last half of the inning -- with the aid of the blast from Podolski and another from junior Marie Mantelli -- to up the margin to 7-1.

Grover had an RBI double in the fourth following a hit by Gauger, and both finished the game with two runs scored. Junior Ashley Gott recorded the other UNE base hit.

Senior pitcher Amber Zablowsky retired the last seven Colonel batters to improve to 12-2 on the year, limiting the opponents to three hits and two walks in five innings of work.

Jennifer Lundstrom took the loss in the circle for Curry. (Game recap courtesy of UNE Sports Information)
