Softball Edged 3-2 By New England College in Both Ends of a Doubleheader

MILTON, Mass. - New England College extended its winning streak to six games by sweeping Curry College in The Commonwealth Coast Conference (TCCC) softball action Thursday afternoon in Milton. With the wins the Pilgrims improve to 8-10 overall and 7-3 in the TCCC. The Colonels slip to 11-15 overall and 6-6 in league play.

In the opener, Pilgrims’ senior Bethany Forshaw would double in the game-tying runs in the home half of the seventh inning and Briel Lofrano would score on a Mindy Robbins fielder's choice in the eighth leading the Pilgrims to the 3-2 extra-inning victory. Curry had established a 2-0 lead in the fifth by virtue of a two-run home run by freshman Chelsey Munsey.

Picking up the win was Gabrielle Timms, who allowed two earned runs on six hits. Freshman Jennifer Lundstrom (3-2) was handed the loss, surrendering four hits and four walks over 7 1/3 innings, but not allowing an earned run.

In the nightcap, NEC's Alyssa Hoot would hit a two-run home run in the bottom of the sixth inning giving the Pilgrims the 3-2 lead. Again the Colonels were unable to hold on to a two-run lead, this time provided by freshman Taryn Vigeant’s two-run single in the second inning.

Picking up the win was Elizabeth Harrigan, who allowed two earned runs on eight hits, while striking out five. Munsey absorbed the loss to fall to 3-4 on the season.
