Softball Sweeps a Twinbill From Visiting Regis in TCCC Action
MILTON, Mass. – The Curry College softball team took both games in a conference doubleheader with Regis College, winning the opener 3-1, and the nightcap, 6-3. The Colonels improved to 9-13 overall and 6-4 in The Commonwealth Coast Conference (TCCC), while the Pride fell to 1-22 overall and 0-12 in conference action.

GAME ONE

Regis scored early, plating a run in the first inning when Hope Benjamin (Rochester, MA) received a walk with the bases loaded and no outs. Curry responded with three quick outs to end the inning and hold the Pride to one run in the first inning.

In the third inning, the Colonels scored all three of their runs. With one out, a pair of back-to-back singles from Heather Carrier (Scarborough, MA) and Valarie LaSala (Seaford, NY) got them on first and second base, respectively. An error that allowed Carrier to reach third was followed by a single off the bat of Megan Flaherty (Medway, MA) to bring Carrier home. Another error allowed LaSala to cross the plate. Flaherty then scored the final run of the inning on a wild pitch.

Janelle Mayo (Worcester, MA) picked up the win in the circle, allowing one run on four hits, while striking out three. Flaherty led Curry’s offense, going 2-for-3 with an RBI.

Kendra Abram (Acushnet, MA) absorbed the loss, giving up one earned run on four hits, while striking out four.

GAME TWO
Box Score

In the second game, Regis got out to a quick lead, scoring two runs in the second inning. Stefanie Wozmak (Auburn, NH) scored on a wild pitch, while Abram hit an RBI single to center. The Pride then added one run to their lead in the third, after Alissa Michaud (Beverly, MA) singled to left field to bring home Benjamin.

The Colonels had a huge sixth frame, scoring all six of their runs. The inning was highlighted by a two-out, two-run home run to left field off the bat of Samantha Scanlon (Raynham, MA).

Curry’s offense was led by Amanda Peters (East Bridgewater, MA), going 2-for-3 with two RBI, and Scanlon, going 1-for-1 with two RBI. Chelsey Munsey (Leominster, MA) picked up the win, allowing three runs on eight hits, while striking out three.

Abram took the loss, giving up four runs on four hits. Abram and Michaud each recorded a RBI.

The Colonels host Fitchburg State on Wednesday in a non-conference doubleheader with a 3:00 p.m. start. Regis resumes play on Tuesday, hosting Daniel Webster in a 4:00 p.m. doubleheader.
