Softball Drops a Pair to Salem State in Non-Conference Action
MILTON, Mass. – The Curry College Softball team suffered a doubleheader sweep, losing to visiting Salem State, 14-6 in six innings and 11-1, in non-conference action Tuesday afternoon in Milton. The Vikings evened their season record at 8-8 while the Colonels dropped to 6-12.

GAME ONE
Box Score

Salem State took advantage of four Curry errors and plated seven runs in the top of the first. The Vikings went ahead 9-0 in the top of the third before the Colonels scored six times in the bottom of the inning to pull within three. But Salem State scored a total of five more runs in the fifth and sixth to secure the 14-6 win. The Vikings collected 11 hits, including three from sophomore Christina Cipriani, who also drove in a team-high five runs. The Colonels got a pair of RBI from senior Amanda Peters. Junior Katelynn Fanning picked up the win, improving to 3-4 on the season. Peters absorbed the loss to fall to 1-3.

Salem State pounded out 14 more hits, including a 5-for-5, three-RBI performance from senior Taylor Orlando. The Vikings built an 8-0 lead through 5 ½ innings before the Colonels broke up the shutout in the bottom of the sixth when freshman Heather Carrier scored on a wild pitch. Fanning (4-4) was dominant in picking up her second win of the day, allowing just one hit while striking out nine in five innings of work. Senior Janelle Mayo (0-6) was tagged with the loss.

Salem State resumes play on Thursday, hosting Plymouth State in a 3:00 p.m. doubleheader. Curry returns to conference play on Wednesday, hosting a pair of games against Eastern Nazarene at 3:00 p.m.
