TCCC Softball All-Conference Teams and Annual Awards Announced

MILTON, Mass. - Student-athletes from all thirteen institutions who sponsor softball in The Commonwealth Coast Conference were represented on the 2010 All-TCCC Softball Team, it was announced today by Commissioner Gregg M. Kaye.

Three Curry College student-athletes received second team honors: junior first baseman Amanda Peters (East Bridgewater, Mass.), freshman second baseman Amanda Felzmann (Bellingham, Mass.) and senior shortstop Kristen Jackman (Stoughton, Mass.).

    
In addition to the all-conference team, winners of five major individual awards and the team sportsmanship award were also selected. Anna Maria junior Sarah Boyda was named TCCC Player of the Year, Endicott junior Jenna Bortolotti was picked as TCCC Pitcher of the Year, Endicott freshman Krista Fales was chosen TCCC Rookie of the Year, Endicott’s Merry MacDonald was honored as TCCC Senior Scholar Athlete of the Year, Anna Maria’s Aimee Lee was honored as TCCC Coach of the Year, and Gordon College was the recipient of the Team Sportsmanship Award.

Voting for the All-TCCC team and each of the major awards was conducted among TCCC softball coaches.

Joining Boyda (catcher) and Bortolotti on the first team were infielders Trish Breault (1B, Western New England), Sarah Quint (2B, Gordon), Rachel White (3B, New England College), Jenna Lazar (SS, Endicott), outfielders Lauren Arsenault (Western New England), Amber Burns (Eastern Nazarene), Teraysa White (New England College), designated player Sarah Lempicki (Western New England), and utility player Alyssa Hoot (New England College).

Joining Fales (catcher) and MacDonald (third base) on the second team were infielders Peters, Felzmann, Sarah Spaziano (2B, Endicott), Jackman, outfielders Jen Cruver (Salve Regina), Megan Downey (Endicott),  Ashley Wright (Endicott), designated player Kristen Parolise (Salve Regina), pitcher Sarah Jakiela (Salve Regina), and utility player Emily Borden (Gordon).

Receiving honorable mention were infielders Chelsea Correia (C, Nichols), Ashley Gott (C, U. of New England), Hope Benjamin (1B, Regis), Niki Devlin (1B, Endicott), Allyssa Boykin (2B, Anna Maria), Erica Castro (2B, Roger Williams), Liz Harvey (3B, Wentworth), Hannah Pirez (SS, Roger Williams), outfielders Mary Moroski (Anna Maria), Ashley Robidoux (Nichols), Tabitha Ruggeri (Anna Maria), Kristen Terry (Gordon), and pitcher Amber Zablowsky (U. of New England).

Boyda, a junior from Oxford, Mass., was an instrumental part in the AMCATS resurgence as she led the league in batting average (.476), hits (40) and steals (24) in conference-only play.  Boyda also ranked second in TCCC competition in runs (26) and on base percentage (.527). The AMCATS captured the fifth seed in the conference tournament, after posting a 15-9 mark in league play.

Bortolotti, a junior from Milton, Mass., was a dominant force in the circle this year for the Gulls as she registered a 16-0 record in conference play.  In addition to leading the league in wins, Bortolotti also led the way in ERA (1.06), shutouts (6), and opponent’s batting average (.188).  Her dominance allowed the Gulls to grab the top overall seed in TCCC tournament play with a regular season record of 18-5-1.

Fales, a freshman from Melrose, Mass., was a key contributor to an Endicott attack that led the conference in most major offensive categories including; batting average, on-base percentage, slugging percentage, runs, doubles, RBI, walks, and steals.  Fales ranked first in the conference in on-base percentage (.543), was fourth in batting average (.446), and third in walks (13) during her freshman campaign.

MacDonald, a senior from Braintree, Mass., who was recognized as the 2009 TCCC Player of the Year, is a standout performer in the classroom as well.  As a Sport Management major at Endicott, MacDonald carried an impressive 3.93 GPA.  On the field, this season MacDonald continued to thrive ranking in the top-ten in hits (7th, 31), runs scored (4th, 23), triples (4th, 2), and stolen bases (3rd, 14) during conference play.

In her seventh year as head coach of both softball and field hockey at Anna Maria, Lee has guided the AMCATS to a 15-9 record in TCCC play and the fifth slot in the conference tournament.  Anna Maria was picked to finish ninth in the preseason coaches’ poll. The AMCATS have improved each of the past two years and have seen their record jump from 8-27 (5-19) in 2008 to 20-19 (15-9) in just two years.
