Softball Drops a Pair to Conference Foe N.E. College
MILTON, Mass. - Curry College dropped a doubleheader, 9-1 in six innings and 6-3, to New England College in The Commonwealth Coast Conference (TCCC) softball action Thursday in Milton. The Colonels saw their record fall to 11-12 overall and 6-4 in the TCCC, while the Pilgrims improved to 4-14 overall and 3-5 in league play.

In Game 1, the visitors got home runs from freshman Gabrielle Timms (Clark Summit, Pa.) and junior Rachel White (Arlington, Mass.) as part of an 11-hit attack. Sophomore Teraysa White (Belgrade, Maine) had three hits and an RBI in support of junior Bethany Forshaw (Waterford, Conn.), who held Curry to just two hits, three walks and one run over six innings. She also struck out three in improving her season record to 2-6.

The Colonels only run came on an RBI double by Kristen Jackman (Stoughton, Mass.) in the third inning. Junior Amanda Peters (East Bridgewater, Mass.) took the loss, falling to 3-7 after allowing eight earned runs, 11 hits and two walks over six innings.

In Game 2, the Pilgrims used a four-run sixth inning to overcome a 3-1 deficit, then tacked on an insurance run in the top of the seventh. Curry built its two-run edge thanks to a two-run single by junior Samantha Velezis (Waterbury, Conn.) in the bottom of the fifth. The lead was short-lived as NEC got RBI hits from Forshaw, Rachel White and sophomore Chelsea Torrico (Mt. Washington, Mass.) the next inning.

Timms (2-7) picked up the win, tossing seven innings of seven-hit ball without allowing an earned run. Junior Janelle Mayo (6-3) was tagged with the loss, suurendering 13 hits and two earned runs, while striking out nine over seven innings.

Curry next hosts Wentworth in a TCCC doubleheader Saturday starting at 1:00 p.m. NEC hosts TCCC rival Salve Regina on Saturday for a pair of games starting at 12:00 p.m.
