Curry (8-8, 4-0 The Commonwealth Coast Conference) fell behind 5-2 in the opener before pulling ahead with four runs in the bottom of the sixth. That rally was highlighted by run-scoring doubles from freshmen Valarie LaSala and Marissa Strangie. After the Fighting Scots (11-8, 6-4 TCCC) tied the game in the top of the 7th, the Colonels responded once again in the bottom of the frame, getting singles from junior Janelle Mayo and freshman Mikaela Carney, and a walk to junior Amanda Peters, before LaSala knocked home the game-winning run with a base hit to centerfield. Peters was the winning pitcher, improving her record to 2-5 on the season.
The nightcap unfolded in similar fashion. Gordon took a 4-3 lead through four innings, but Curry went back on top with a pair of runs in the bottom of the fifth. Strangie had another double, putting her team ahead 5-4. The Fighting Scots then tied the game with a single run in the top of the 6th, and went ahead with another run in the top of the 7th. Not content to send the game into extra innings, the Colonels plated two to complete the sweep and remain undefeated in league play. A double from Peters, followed by another run-scoring double from Strangie set the stage for junior Joneiha Veiga, who brought home Curry's seventh run with a two-out base hit to centerfield. Mayo was the beneficiary of her team's last-inning heroics, improving her record to 5-1 on the year.
Curry resumes play on Friday, April 2 at 4:00 p.m. against Johnson & Wales. That game will be played at Cunningham Park in Milton.
