Three Round-Trippers From Peters Propel Softball to a Sweep of Roger Williams

BOSTON, Mass. - Curry College swept Roger Williams University, 4-0 and 8-3, in The Commonwealth Coast Conference (TCCC) doubleheader played at Wentworth Institute of Technology Sunday afternoon. The Colonels improved to 6-8 overall and opened conference play with a 2-0 record. The Hawks fell to 8-10 overall and 2-4 in TCCC action.

In the opener, Curry got single runs in the second, third, fourth and sixth innings, in support of junior Amanda Peters (East Bridgewater, MA), who shut out Roger Williams to notch her first victory of the season. Peters (1-5) tossed a complete-game, four-hitter, walking one while striking out six. She also launched a fourth-inning solo home run in support of her own cause.

In the nightcap, the Colonels exploded for six runs over the first three innings, then cruised behind the pitching of junior Janelle Mayo (Worcester, MA), who improved to 4-1 on the season. Mayo hurled a complete-game, scattering nine hits while allowing just one earned run. Peters was the hitting star once again, launching her second and third round-trippers of the afternoon and collecting four more runs batted in.

The Hawks got single runs in the third, fourth and seventh, with RBI from three different players: Erica Castro (Medford, NY), Samantha Teves (Somerset, MA) and Hannah Pearson. Jaclyn Doolin (Miller Place, NY) took the loss in Game One, while Kelly Marcin (Windsor Locks, CT) absorbed the loss in Game Two.

Curry hits the road for a 4:00 p.m. non-conference doubleheader on March 30 at Salem State. Roger Williams travels to Regis College on the same day and time for conference doubleheader.
