Men's Volleyball Splits Doubleheader

Weston, MA - The Curry Men's volleyball team split their tri-match on Saturday, falling to Regis in three sets, and defeating Vermont State Johnson in five. The Colonels are now 3-5 on the season, while Regis is 5-3 and Vermont State Johnson is 3-2.

Match One vs Regis

The Colonels were defeated in straight sets by the Pride, 25-15, 25-17, 25-16. Each set saw the Pride just slowly build up a lead that would be insurmountable for the Colonels. Chris Milfort led the way with 10 kills on 27 attacks for the Colonels, while Loden Broe had 20 set assists. Isaias Anziani and Milfort led the team with five digs each.

Match Two vs Vermont State Johnson

The Colonels defeated the Badgers in straight sets by a score of 25-17, 19-25, 25-19, 18-25, 15-6.

 

Trailing 14-11 in the first set, the Colonels went on a 7-0 run to take control, and would win the first set 25-17. But the second set saw the Badgers grab an early lead, and they would never surrender it. The Colonels got within one at 20-19, but VTSU would score the final five points of the set. They continued that momentum by taking an early 8-3 lead in the third, but the Colonels would fight back and take the set 25-19. The turning point in the fourth set came with things tied at 16, the Badgers would go on a 7-1 run before taking the set 25-18, sending the match to a pivotal fifth set. After scoring the first four points of the deciding set, the Colonels would not look back, taking it 15-6, giving them the match.

Milfort once again led the way, as he had 20 kills. Second on the team was Michael Swanigan with 12 kills. Each of them would post a double-double, with Swanigan leading the team with 17 digs, and Milfort collecting 11. Anziani also had 15 digs. Both Loden Broe and Owen Hemmenway each had 20 set assists. Brayden Maloney led the team defensively with five total blocks to go with eight kills
