Men's Tennis Drops CCC Match at Gordon

WENHAM, Mass. – Gordon College won every set while powering to a 9-0 victory over Curry College in a Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) men's tennis matchup on Saturday afternoon at the Brigham Athletic Complex.

The Fighting Scots got off to a strong start by taking all three doubles points. The top duo of senior Will Jeffreys (Parkton, Md.) and sophomore John Marineau (Auburn, N.H.) didn't lose a game while the team of senior Richard Ryzi (Littleton, Mass.) and sophomore Mark Noschese (Wayne, N.J) won by an 8-2 final at the No. 2 double spot. Sophomore Alex Ryzi (Littleton, Mass.) and senior Matt McEathron (Upton, Mass.) took the No. 3 doubles point by default.

Gordon carried the momentum in singles play as Jeffreys, Marineau, R. Ryzi, and Noschese all won in straight sets. Jeffreys defeated junior Lorenzo Russo (Lynnfield, Mass.) at No 1 singles by identical 6-3, 6-3 set scores, Marineau got by sophomore Nicholas Bell (Haverhill, Mass.) at No. 2 singles (6-1, 6-2). R. Ryzi took down junior David Monteiro 6-0 and 6-3 at the No. 3 singles spot while Noschese blanked junior Tarek Paranica 6-0, 6-0 at No. 4. A. Ryzi and McEathron won their respective singles points at No. 5 and 6 by default.

Curry (0-5, 0-3 CCC) returns home to host the Wentworth Institute of Technology on Wednesday, April 14 at 3:30 p.m. Gordon (4-2 overall, 2-1 CCC) returns to action at Endicott College on Wednesday at 3:30 p.m.
